CPC Kicks off 2021 Stewardship Season
“For Such a Time as This” by Rev. Hoyle
This past week I talked with two members of our congregation who lost their spouses in the past year. Both said something about having never thought they would live through a time like this.
Thinking about both of them I remembered the scripture from two weeks ago when Mordecai said to Queen Esther “Perhaps you were put here just for such a time as this.”
For Such a Time as This was for Esther and the rest of the Jews an uncharted and dangerous time when they were threated with death and annihilation. Esther was faced with important decisions that would impact herself and many others.
For Such a Time as This is the theme of our 2022 Stewardship Campaign. Our Stewardship Team and leadership will be asking you to make important decisions that will impact our church and our church’s ministries which touch many lives. Last year was a challenge. Who had been through such a time? Our pledges for 2021 were not what we had hoped. As a result the plans for calling an Associate Pastor to replace Patrick and do new and different ministries, could not be carried out for lack of funding. 2022 has been a good year for our contributions running ahead of projections and if your giving continues, we will finish the year well in the black, which will be great.
2022 will be 40 years since I walked across the chancel of Princeton’s University Chapel to graduate from seminary. I have seen a lot of stewardship seasons and preached and pledge in many campaigns. Some of you have participated in even more. I want to thank you, all of you for generosity that has brought Clemmons Presbyterian to this time. If we were not so well served with the gifts and talents and time of so many members, we would certainly not be sharing our worship services around the world and with other congregations, teaching children and youth, supporting missions and ministries and ministering to hurting folks in our congregation and beyond. You are here for such a time as this. God has called you to this place at this time and you responded.
Over the next 30 days there will be new opportunities to respond in faith. There will be daily messages on our social media and email that ask us to reflect on generosity and faith. You can share them if you like. We will have some mailings and messages, speakers and sermons that will lead up to an important November 14th time to offer our estimates of giving for the next year. Perhaps you can take a big step in your financial commitment to your church for such a time as this. Perhaps you can respond in some other way that is meaningful and sacrificial to you in response to the needs of these times.
“Perhaps you were put here for such a time as this.” Queen Esther was. I believe I am, and I believe you are too. I am grateful for you, and I am grateful we can explore these 30 days of generosity and commitment together.
