Worship Ministry

The goal of the Worship Committee is to provide resources for the congregation to have a meaningful worship experience. Representing the interests and needs of the congregation and staff, this committee seeks to support the leaders and worshipers with careful planning, worship aids and elements, instruction and information about changes, updates and history in worship patterns and desires, a healthy balance of tradition and new ideas, and to have a good time serving our Lord and the church in trying to accomplish these goals.

The Worship Committee ordinarily meets on the first Tuesday of every month for about 1 to 1.5 hours (except July and August, normally). The busiest seasons for the Worship Committee are Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.

You are invited to join this ministry. We are looking for people who have a willingness to serve, to voice opinions, to listen, and to “think outside the box.” Please consider joining our committee or volunteering for one of the other ways to serve: Greeter, Lector, Usher, Communion Preparation, Sanctuary Prep Team, or provide Flowers for Sunday worship.

The Worship Committee is always in need of people to serve in one of the following ways:

Greeter:

Greeters arrive early to worship, stand at the entrance doors, and welcome each person as they enter the Sanctuary building for the 8:30 and 10:45 worship services. Generally requires one Sunday per quarter.

Lector:

Lectors are responsible for reading the scripture lesson on Sunday mornings during the 8:30 or 10:45 worship services. Generally requires one Sunday per quarter.

Usher:

After the service, ushers collect stray paper in the pews, straighten hymnals & Bibles in pew racks, and collect attendance sheets. Ushers serve each Sunday for a full month.

Communion Prep:

In the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), ordained Elders serve the elements during Communion. Communion Preparers are responsible for preparing the Communion elements (bread and juice) for either the 8:30 or 10:45 worship service, setting up the Communion Table, clearing the elements after the service, collecting used cups in the pew racks, and cleaning the table, table cloth, serving trays, and Communion ware.

Sanctuary Prep Team:

The Sanctuary Prep Team prepares the sanctuary weekly for Sunday worship. The team gathers on Fridays to straighten the chairs, the table, pick up excess papers, and address other “clean-up” needs.

Flowers:

Members and friends are invited to provide flowers for Sunday morning worship services. Flowers are a symbol of the life that God provides and the sign of God’s hand at work in creation. Flowers are provided weekly by a local florist and persons are invited to sign-up to provide $30 to cover the cost of the flowers. Flowers may be given in honor or memory of loved ones. A sign-up list is located on the bulletin board across from the Choir Room in the Sanctuary building.
