Adult Small Group Studies
Special Church wide Study for Fall 2011
Treasures of the Transformed Life Small Group Study: This Fall, our church family will embark on a forty-day study that can change the relationship that you have with God in a whole new way. So where do you come in? First of all, know that the church-wide study will involve more than just a series of Sunday-morning sermons. For forty days you will read your book and take notes of your thoughts in the workbook. Additionally, an important element of this study is to participate in a weekly Sunday School class or small group meeting. Each class will be for 45 – 60 minutes. At these meetings you will hear inspired messages to help you define what it is you are thirsty for. If you do not currently attend Sunday School, please drop in to any of the five different classes on a Sunday morning. You will find a class in Fellowship Hall, Room 102, and all of the classrooms in the 200 Building. Choir members will have their own class. Everyone is welcome to join. If you cannot make a class on a Sunday morning, an additional class is being offered at Bermuda Village on Thursday mornings at 10:30 am starting on October 13. Depending on member interest, classes may be offered on Wednesday and/or Sunday evenings. Questions? Contact Sue Lauer at 940-3885 or at .
Bible Studies for Fall 2011
Companions in Christ: This small group 26 week class will help participants explore spiritual practices and assist with developing patterns of faith that open lives to a deepening relationship with God. The study will be offered on Sunday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm and taught by Felica Hoyle. A new foundational “Companions in Christ” group is beginning in September on Sunday afternoons. Registration is required. Click here for the registration form. Another class maybe formed after this one is filled. Contact the office for more information.
The Wednesday Bible Class (6:15-7pm) begins with a video-based study: “Walk as Jesus Walked”. Using film from the Holy Land along with Bible study and discussion, this is an opportunity to discover the fierce passion of our early Christian brothers and sisters to walk like Jesus – even when the path becomes treacherous.
DISCIPLE Bible Studies (Disciple Bible Studies will be offered again in the future)
Christian Disciples are believers, learners, and proclaimers of the Gospel. But most of all they are followers of Jesus Christ! At Clemmons Presbyterian Church we call all people to Discipleship in Christ. Bible studies at CPC form a very important part of our community’s spiritual development. The purpose of DISCIPLE is to develop strong Christian leaders through in-depth study of Scripture, or in the words of Ephesians 4:12: “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.”
Underlying CPC’s DISCIPLE studies is the assumption that people are hungry for the Word of God, for fellowship in prayer and study, and for a sense of appropriate ministry as baptized, believing, and committed Christians. Disciple making and Christian nurturing are its goals. Some people will become teachers of DISCIPLE; all persons in the study will be guided into servanthood and ministry. Participants will become better Sunday school teachers, better parents, better youth and adult choir members, better officers in the church, better youth fellowship members because their ministry will be inspired as well as informed, and better servants to all of God’s children. In other words, CPC’s DISCIPLE studies seek to build Biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples. Over 10% of our active church members have participated in these meaning, life-changing and church-changing studies.
DISCIPLE I
DISCIPLE I, the foundational course lasts 34 weeks and includes a commitment to daily Bible Study (minimum 20-30 minutes per day) and weekly attendance at the group
session (2-2 ½ hours). Groups ordinarilly form in the fall. Folks who have done it have found that it is easier to find the time for this commitment than they had thought and find themselves feeling “out of sync” if they miss their study time. While the Bible knowledge gained is significant, participants find the time spent with the community of faith the most meaningful part of all. As group members study and share together, they find what the true demands of Christian discipleship are and then strive to discover what it means to live out their faith as God would have them.
For more information, contact . DISCIPLE Short-Course These 9-11 week, in-depth, high commitment Bible studies are modeled after
the basic design of DISCIPLE Bible study. The study will be based on these underlying principles of DISCIPLE: (1) The Bible is the starting point for the study, (2) expects preparation on the part of individual participants, (3) includes a weekly discussion in a small-group setting that builds community, (4) assumes that the leader functions as facilitator, (5) contains a video component, and (6) identifies some mark of discipleship.
