Congregational Care

Congregational Care

The Congregational Care Committee serves under the Growth and Nurture Division to care for all members of our church family. Within the Committee, there are special groups that focus on specific populations or needs of church members. The committee meets quarterly; please check the church calendar for the next meeting. All are welcomed to attend or help in other ways. Susan Allred ( or 336-766-2765)  serves as moderator and can be contacted for all aspects of Congregational Care.

The special groups in the Congregational Care Committee are:

Care Team

Care Team is a network of friendly caring people called shepherds. Every active, resident member of CPC is part of a Care Team Shepherd’s group. Each Care Team Shepherd is responsible for 8 to 12 family units. The Shepherds get to know their families, keep them in their thoughts and prayers, and communicate with them on a regular basis. These actions help to maintain a caring connection within our growing church family. Care Team Shepherds meet bi-monthly for prayer and training. To learn more about the Care Team, contact Lora Crowley ( or 336-778-2652) or   .

Prayer Chain

There are two styles of prayer chains at CPC. The largest is the email prayer chain where individuals volunteer to prayerfully consider requests that are sent via email. The second is a smaller chain where individuals receive the requests per the telephone and then call individuals on their list with the request. If you wish to be on either prayer chain, please contact  .

Martha Ministry

Martha Ministry is a group of volunteers that collaborate to serve a meal for CPC families during time of illness, death, birth and special needs. The meals are coordinated by Leslie Shattes, ( or 336-778-8417). Requests for meals are usually directed from the ministers. You may add your name to the volunteers by contacting Leslie Shattes.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer shawls and lap robes are created to provide comfort and support to individuals during a time of crises or passage. The shawls are hand knitted or crocheted and distributed by the creators, care team shepherds, or ministers. There is a need for yarn and individuals to knit or crochet. If you are interested, please contact Judy Figel ( 0r 336-766-6994).

College of Elders

The College of Elders was formed to honor and maintain contact with those who have served in the Elder capacity at CPC or other Presbyterian Churches. Spouses are included in the twice-a-year meetings that include fellowship and informational meetings. can be contacted for this group.

Homebound Ministry

Charlene Williford ( or 970-7122) coordinates this ministry by contacting, on a monthly basis, members who are homebound to see if they would like to have communion. There are also Christmas and Easter visits to the homebound members. Ordained Elders are invited each month to accompany the ministers in the delivery of the communion. Elders who would like to participate in the Homebound Communion can contact Susan Allred ( or 766-2765).

Card Ministry

Cynthia Nance ( or 766-5556)serves as the coordinator of Card Ministry, and she facilitates the sending of cards to members and their families during illness, surgery, death of a loved one, birth or other special concerns.   Cards are placed in the Narthex on Sunday mornings for congregational signatures or are sent from the committee.  If you are willing to participate, contact Cynthia Nance.

College Student Connection

This ministry maintains a current mailing list for all college students not living at home and affiliated with CPC. Mailings are sent to the students throughout the year to maintain a connection between the students and CPC. Please notify the church office with college addresses and changes so the list will remain accurate. Shelby Clark ( , or 712-9521) can be contacted regarding this ministry.
