At Clemmons Presbyterian Church, there are a variety of ways to serve our Lord Jesus Christ! Please review the following Ministry Descriptions that detail the many ways you can become involved. Once you have found the right “job” for you, you can complete the TIME and TALENT SURVEY online by clicking here. Please remember to print a copy BEFORE you click DONE to bring to the Lord’s Table on Commitment Sunday and if you like a copy for your records. You may do so through your browser’s “print” function. You will also be able to complete a print version as well and place it in the offering plate or send it to the church office . Print versions are available in the Narthex and in the church office.

Worship Ministry Team
- Worship Committee – Provide resources for the congregation to have a meaningful worship experience, plan seasonal worship celebrations, coordinate communion; meets monthly.
- Usher Coordinator (8:30) – Responsible to train and schedule ushers, securing substitutes when necessary

- Sanctuary Choir (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing with sanctuary choir at 10:45 on Sunday mornings, practice Wed. nights
- Cantata Choir (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing with a combined choir twice a year for the Christmas and Easter Cantatas, rehearse seasonally on Wed. nights 7:15-7:45, present to both worship services as scheduled
- Son Risers (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing together during 8:30 worship, practice Sunday mornings
- Sanctuary Bells (High School Youth and Adults) – Play handbells in worship monthly, practice Sunday evenings
- Instrumentalist – Play your instrument as accompaniment, solo or ensemble
- Joyful Noise Children’s Music Leader – Help lead children (ages 5 to grade 1) in singing and music activities during children’s choir on Wednesday evening, lead children to sing in worship.
- FISH Sticks Leader –works with youth to interpret music with motions for use in worship; practice Wednesday.
- Children’s Music Assistant - Help with children’s choir activities on Wednesday evenings
- Music Librarian – Help organize and file music in the choir room.
- Communion Preparation Coordinator – Responsible to schedule Communion preparers, train new people as needed, secure substitutes when necessary
- Communion Preparation Team – Prepare the bread and juice for Communion once or twice a year for both services.
- Sanctuary Preparation Team – Change paraments and banners as needed; recycle bulletins; tidy pew racks and sanctuary weekly (can be done any time)
- Acolyte Coordinator (8:30) – Responsible to train and schedule acolytes, assist on Sunday mornings, and securing substitutes when necessary

- Seasonal Preparations Team – Plan and coordinate decorations and special needs for seasonal services (i.e. palm crosses, ashes, candlelight service candles), advertise special services in local papers, arrange for additional seasonal flowers
- Sewing Ministry Team – Provide cross-stitch baptismal certificates as needed; Sew new banners as needed
- Advent Preparation Team - Assist with decorating the Sanctuary and church buildings for the Advent and Christmas seasons.
- Worship Flower Coordinator – Coordinate the schedule of weekly flowers for worship, communicate with the florist, arrange for Easter Lilies, Christmas Poinsettias, and other seasonal needs.
Christian Education
- Children’s Education Committee – A group of people who work together to guide activities and education opportunities for children ages 3 years through 5th grade. This includes and not limited to: Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Outings, Summer Camps, and Children in Worship Education.
- Adult Education committee – A group of people who work together to guide adult education opportunities. This includes and not limited: Sunday School, Disciple Classes, Wednesday night Bible Studies.
- Nursery Committee – A group of people who work together to staff the nursery for Sunday mornings, special events, and oversee the care and safety of pre-school age children.
- Weekday Pre-School Board- A group of people who work with the Pre-School Director in making decisions for the Weekday Pre-School.
- Library committee – A group of people who work on maintaining and stocking the Church Library.
- Vacation Bible School Director - coordinate activities of annual VBS with the help of Director of Christian Education. Recruit volunteers
- Vacation Bible School Volunteer – many opportunities including: Bible storyteller, kitchen helpers, recreation leaders, craft leaders, music leaders, set construction and more!
- Sunday School Teacher (2011-2012) – Teach Sunday School as part of a team: Children, middle school/high school, adult.
- Sunday School Teacher (2012-2013) – Teach Sunday School as part of a team: Children, middle school/high school, adult.
- Nursery Worker (8:30) – Willing to help 4-6 times per year with Sunday morning childcare for children ages birth to 5 years.
- Nursery Worker (10:45) – Willing to help 4-6 times per year with Sunday morning childcare for children ages birth to 5 years.
- Children in Worship Education Leader – Provide education during Sunday School hour 4-6 times a year for young elementary age children about the components of Worship (curriculum provided)
- Children’s Worship Bag Helper – Help re-stock the children’s worship bags weekly with supplies.
- Classroom Preparation Team – This is a new opportunity that is ideal for couples or families! Spot check classrooms and the Fellowship Hall on Saturday afternoon or evening to make sure tables & chairs are set up properly for Sunday morning classes and the classrooms are generally clean from clutter. We hope to have enough to set up a rotating team. The work is specific to Saturdays because of the community groups that use our building on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Congregational Care
- AED Coordinator: The coordinator will provide AED (defibrillator) training for members of the congregationCard Ministry: This committee provides for the preparation and mailing of cards to members and their families during illness, surgery, death of a loved one, birth, or any other special concerns.
- Care Team: Care Team shepherds provide love, care and support to families within the church. Each shepherd is given the names of about 8 families. Their goal is to get to know the families; keep them in their thoughts and prayers; and communicate regularly through phone calls, notes, emails, and personal visits.
- College Connection Ministry: Committee members connect with the church’s college-age students, whether at home or away, by sending notes, letters and cards to the students approximately 4 times during the academic year.
- Homebound Ministry: This committee is responsible for coordinating the monthly schedule to make communion available to those members who are homebound and unable to be present at church. A minister and an elder make the visit to the member’s home.
- Martha Ministry Coordinator: Manage the volunteers who provide food for individuals/families that are in need of a meal during times of illness, crisis, death, or celebration.
- Martha Ministry Preparers: Volunteers provide food for individuals/families that are in need of a meal during times of illness, crisis, death, or celebration.
- Martha Ministry Meal Delivery Team: This group will deliver the meals provided by the Martha Ministry.
- Prayer Shawl Ministry: The Prayer Shawl Committee members make knitted and crocheted prayer shawls and lap robes to give to those who are facing a difficult time.
Stewardship Ministry
- Wills, Bequests and Stock Donation Education – Provide education to the congregation about the importance of wills and stock donation quarterly using a variety of methods.
- Year-Round Stewardship Education Team – Work with a team to develop an annual stewardship theme and provide monthly or bimonthly stewardship education using a variety of methods.
- Fall Stewardship Campaign Team – Design the fall stewardship campaign to distribute and collect pledge cards and time and talent sheets from all members.
- Time and Talent Survey Management Team – Review and update the time and talent sheets annually prior to the fall campaign, manage the input and distribution of the data during the year, help with data entry as needed.
- Spiritual Gifts Team – Work with a team of people to meet new members when they come before Session & discuss opportunities for service at CPC with them individually after the Session meeting (need to have knowledge of the church and its programs).
New Member and Evangelism Ministry
- New Member and Evangelism Committee – Coordinates the work of the New Member and Evangelism Ministries, meets monthly.
- Visitation Team – Teams trained by pastor to assist in performing visits to repeat visitors to talk about our church ministries and potential church membership.
Visitor Follow-Up Ministry
- Visitor Tracking – Includes revision, management and performance of visitor follow-up process from beginning to end, including visitation to repeat visitors and perspective members.
- Development of Visitor Information Materials – Coordinate visitor information packet, develop supplemental material if needed
- Mug and Church Information Delivery – Weekly to new visitors as needed
New Member Follow-Up Ministry
- Coordinate Inquirers Workshop – Includes refreshments, and having proper materials and speakers to attend to needs of joining members (stewardship, education, etc.)
- Organize New Member Recognition Events – Execute new member recognition events (having a meal with all the Session at the end of the inquirers class or similar).
- New Member Photography – Photograph New Members for Narthex Monitor.
Communications Ministry
- Communications Committee – Coordinate communication between the session, staff, church committees, and the congregation, process Communication Requests, meets monthly.
- Web Page Maintenance and Development – Maintain and enhance CPC’s web site as needed including information about church programs, staff and upcoming events.
- Highlights Weekly Newsletter – Author and Deliver CPC’s Highlights weekly e-mail newsletter with information about church programs and upcoming events.
- Design Publications & Brochures– Includes membership directories and pew pads, evangelism materials, special services promotional materials and design of materials for other ministry teams.
- Advertising and Press Releases – Development of appropriate advertising materials and press releases to inform our community of CPC activities. Need good writing skills.
- Photographer – Take photographs at church events and other times for use on the web page, local newspapers, bulletin boards, etc.
Administrative/Office Support Minisitry
- Administration Committee member – be a part of the committee that oversees the administrative areas of the church
- Bulletins – folding and stuffing once a week for 1-2 hours
- Newsletter - fold, seal, label and separate by zip codes; once a month for 2 hours
- Prepare Special Mailings – varies by seasons and committee needs; fold, label and separate by zip codes; time requirement usually 1-2 hours
- Answering the phone – for days the secretary is off; days vary; time commitment from 9am until 3pm or mornings or afternoons
- Newsletter Information Collection – work with the church secretary to collect needed newsletter articles from various groups within the church and send to the office when complete the secretary to format. Flexible hours
- Computer Data Entry – entry of data into church software as needed. Time commitments vary. Flexible hours
- Recycling – Regularly empty the paper bin in the church office and recycle.
Personnel Ministry
- Personnel Committee – Meet monthly to support and address the needs of our staff, conduct annual evaluations, and fill vacancies as needed.
Mission Ministry
- Missions/Community Service Committee Member – Meet monthly to identify and plan mission/service projects that the CPC will support financially and with volunteers.
- Correspondence with Missionary – A partnering relationship has been established between John McCall, in Taiwan, and CPC. No experience needed – maintain contact with John, sharing information with the committee and congregation.
- Crisis Control Volunteer – Opportunities include work in the food pantry, the clothes closet, interview Crisis Control clients (training provided), or deliver food from CPC to the food pantry once a month.
- Samaritan Ministries Volunteer – Group of six people work from 6:15 pm until 7:00 am at the Samaritan Inn for Homeless Men serving dinner and breakfast, manning the desk in 2-hour shifts, playing games, watching TV, interacting with the men – there is am employee on site at all times. CPC is responsible four times per year.
- Habitat for Humanity Volunteer – No experience in carpentry is needed! Volunteer to work once or twice a year with a CPC crew on a designated house in Winston Salem. Must be 16 years or older.
- Meals on Wheels Volunteer – Deliver prepared lunches once a month to shut-ins in the Winston-Salem area.
- Blood Drive Volunteer – available to assist the day of the blood drive with refreshments, etc. Blood drives are held six times per year.
- Giving Tree Volunteer – in October Big Brother/Big Sister and Relatives as Parents Program (RAPP) provide the church with children and families who need our assistance to have gifts under the tree on Christmas morning. Responsibilities include: preparing angel tags for the tree, set up the tree in mid-November, publicize needs to the congregation, inventory gifts when returned to be sure all are tagged appropriately before the pick-up in mid-December.
- Alternative Giving Volunteer – coordinate efforts to offer the congregation opportunities to purchase alternative gifts for Christmas (i.e. make a donation to a particular mission in honor or memory of loved one).
- 2 Cents a Meal Coordinator – coordinate and publicize the collection on the second Sunday of the month.
- Bulletin Board Volunteer – working with the chair person keep the Mission bulletin boards (2) updated.
- Publicity Volunteer - working with the chair person prepare information for the bulletin, newsletter, and Highlights.
- SERVE International Volunteer - provide a catalog in November and December so that members wishing may order gifts.
- Hispanic Ministry (El Buen Pastor, New Church Development in Winston-Salem)
- Homework Helper – Work with 2-3 children at a time in the study hall during the after school program as you are able. (You do not have to speak Spanish)
- Tutor – Tutor a specific child 1-2 days per week from 4-5 p.m. during the after school program located at El Buen Pastor church. A 9 month commitment is required. (You do not have to speak Spanish)
- El Buen Pastor Steering Committee – A Presbytery Committee that meets the second Monday of each month at 6:00 pm and needs 2 volunteers from CPC. (You do not have to speak Spanish)
- Cooking for Community OutreachCommunity Care Center – dinner to 12-15 doctors/nurses at the Community Care Center in W-S every other month. Meals are provided for 30-35 staff persons.
Finance Ministry
- Finance Committee – Review and analyze monthly financial reports. Research and recommend policy/process improvements for recording and reporting financial transactions.
- Counting Funds – With an experienced partner, assist in the sorting, counting and recording of weekly offerings. Be available to count approximately one Sunday per month.
- Audit Committee – Join a team to audit the Church’s annual financial records. The audit time spent will be approximately three afternoons in the fall.
- Assistant Treasurer – banking, sales tax reports, financial liaison with Presbytery.Insurance -handle insurance matters with carrier.
Property Ministry
- Grounds & Gardens Committee – Ensure the upkeep of the church grounds including scheduling church wide work days to trim bushes, pull weeds, spread mulch as needed; keep walkways clear of cob webs
- Property Committee – Ensure the maintenance and mechanical functioning of existing buildings, monitoring the lawn care service, maintain the interior appearance and decorating of the buildings, monitor cleaning of the buildings by the cleaning service; coordinate “spring cleaning” teams twice a year to clean windows, etc.
- Property Consultant – Willing to share skills in the following areas on an as needed basis:
- Painting Construction Snow Removal Tree Removal Landscaping
- Electrical Plumbing Woodworking Odd Jobs/General Maintenance
Fellowship Ministry
- Retreat Planning – Advertise and organize opportunities for groups to attend selected retreats.
- Recreation Team Coordinator – Coordinate the Recreation Team in its ministry.
- Recreation Team – Coordinate recreation and fellowship activities for all ages of the church, including: prepare different games for the annual church picnic; family-oriented and intergenerational games; advertise and organize opportunities to attend special events as a church family.
- Hospitality Team Coordinator – Leads Hospitality Team management of various fellowship events.
- Hospitality Team – Plans and organizes food preparation and serving for various fellowship events. Responsibilities include advertising, set up, food preparation if required, beverage service and clean up.
- Wednesday Night Supper Team Leader- Recruit and schedule volunteers to prepare a simple meal in the church kitchen.
- Wednesday Night Supper Team Member – Help prepare a simple meal in the church kitchen. Set up, beverage making and clean up are also part of the duties.
- Supper Club Coordinator – Responsible for advertising and organizing small groups quarterly to fellowship monthly in each other’s homes or out to dinner.
- Cookies & Lemonade Team Coordinator – Recruit and schedule volunteers to make coffee or lemonade and cookies after worship.
- Cookies & Lemonade Team – Plan and organize the monthly Cookies & Lemonade time after worship.
- Kitchen Shopper – Shop for food for Wednesday night dinner; general paper products, receptions, etc. Approximately 2 hours per week, during school year – less in summer.
Presbyterian Men
- Men’s Breakfast Devotions – Plan short devotion for monthly Saturday morning breakfast on a rotating basis.
- Men’s Breakfast Cooking Team – Plan menu and cook for monthly Saturday morning breakfast
- Men’s Breakfast Coordinator – Coordinate schedule for devotions, cooks, and clean-up, publicize monthly breakfast.
Presbyterian Women
- Circle Leader – Coordinate women’s circle group to meet monthly, arrange for host homes, study facilitators, etc., as needed.
Youth Ministry (Gooth) Responsibilities
- Youth Ministry Council - A team of adults, youth, the Elder for Youth, and the Associate Pastor that functions as an administrative team for all aspects of the youth ministry program. No prior experience necessary. Meets 9-10 times per year.
- Youth Ministry Advisors - A team of Adult Advisors, youth, and the Associate Pastor, who work together to provide programs & spiritual guidance for the weekly Youth program. This includes but is not limited to: Middle and High School weekly youth group, special activities/trips, and missions.
- Youth Ministry Chaperone - One-time/Occasional assistance with an event on an as-needed basis, such as: lock-in, off-campus event, weekend retreat, or summer conference or mission trip. No experience required!
- Youth Program Presenter – One-time programs on topics of your gifts/interest (life skills, ministry experience, mission, health, college-prep, etc.)
