Ministry Descriptions for Children and Youth

At Clemmons Presbyterian Church, there are a variety of ways to serve our Lord Jesus Christ!  Please review the following Ministry Descriptions that detail the many ways you can become involved.  Once you have found the right “job” for you, you may complete the 2012 youth TIME and TALENT SURVEY by clicking here. You will also be able to complete a print version as well and place it in the offering plate or send it to the church office. Print versions will soon be available in the Narthex and the church office.

 Opportunities for Children

  • Attend Sunday School
  • Attend Vacation Bible School
  • Acolyte at 8:30 worship (grades 2 and up) – Light candles prior to service and extinguish at the end of worship
  • Acolyte at 10:45 worship (grades 2 and up) – Light candles prior to service and extinguish at the end of worship
  • Music Makers (2nd – 5th grade) – Learn about worshipping God through music, ringing chimes, singing during worship; practice Wed. evening.
  • Joyful Noises (ages 4-6) – We combine fun activities such as drawing, dancing, singing and scripture reading to enrich the children musically, as well as spiritually; practice Wed. evening.

Opportunities for Youth

  • Youth Handbells (6th – 12th grade) – Learn about music and handbell ringing; presenting music during worship; practice Wednesday nights.
  • FISH Sticks (6th – 12th grade) – a musical group that uses motion, sign language, and artistic “props” to interpret contemporary Christian music. Presenting interpretations during worship; No dancing required.  Lots of fun!  Practice Wednesday nights.
  • Youth Ministry Council – A team of adults, youth, the Elder for Youth, and the Associate Pastor that functions as an oversight team for all aspects of the youth ministry program.  Hosts a limited number of activities for Parents/Youth.  No prior experience necessary.  Meets 8-10 times per year.
  • Youth Ministry Advisors – A team of Adult Advisors, youth, Middle & High School teachers, and the Associate Pastor, who work together to guide all youth activities and education opportunities. This includes but is not limited to: Middle and High School Sunday School, weekly youth group, special activities/trips and missions.
  • Usher (8:30) – Serve as usher during morning worship on a rotating basis at the service you designate.  Substitute as necessary.

  • Lector  (8:30) – Lead in Call to Worship and read Scripture several times a year during the worship service you designate.  Substitute as necessary.

  • Greeter (8:30)  – Greet worshipers at the doors several times a year before the service you designate.  Substitute as necessary.

  • Sanctuary Choir (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing with sanctuary choir at 10:45 on Sunday mornings, practice Wed. nights
  • Cantata Choir (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing with a combined choir twice a year for the Christmas and Easter Cantatas, rehearse seasonally on Wed. nights 7:15-7:45, present to both worship services as scheduled
  • Son Risers (High School Youth and Adults) – Sing together during 8:30 worship, practice Sunday mornings
  • Sanctuary Bells (High School Youth and Adults) – Play handbells in worship monthly, practice Sunday evenings
  • Instrumentalist – Play your instrument as accompaniment, solo or ensemble
  • Nursery Worker (8:30) – Willing to help 4-6 times per year with Sunday morning childcare for children ages birth to 5 years.

  • Vacation Bible School Volunteer – many opportunities including: Bible storyteller, kitchen helpers, recreation leaders, craft leaders, music leaders, set construction and more!
  • Card Ministry:  This committee provides for the preparation and mailing of cards to members and their families during illness, surgery, death of a loved one, birth, or any other special concerns.
  • Samaritan Ministries Volunteer – Group of six people work from 6:15 pm until 7:00 am at the Samaritan Inn for Homeless Men serving dinner and breakfast, manning the desk in 2-hour shifts, playing games, watching TV, interacting with the men – there is am employee on site at all times.  CPC is responsible four times per year.
  • Habitat for Humanity Volunteer – No experience in carpentry is needed!  Volunteer to work once or twice a year with a CPC crew on a designated house in Winston Salem. Must be 16 years or older.
  • Hispanic Ministry Homework Helper – Work with 2-3 children at a time in the study hall during the after school program as you are able.  (You do not have to speak Spanish)
  • Worship Committee – Provide resources for the congregation to have a meaningful worship experience, plan seasonal worship celebrations, coordinate communion; meets monthly.
  • New Member and Evangelism Committee – Coordinates the work of the New Member and Evangelism Ministries, meets monthly.
  • Communications Committee – Coordinate communication between the session, staff, church committees, and the congregation, process Communication Requests, meets monthly.
  • Missions/Community Service Committee Member – Meet monthly to identify and plan mission/service projects that the CPC will support financially and with volunteers.
  • Grounds & Gardens Committee – Ensure the upkeep of the church grounds including scheduling church wide work days to trim bushes, pull weeds, spread mulch as needed; keep walkways clear of cob webs
  • Recreation Team – Coordinate recreation and fellowship activities for all ages of the church, including: prepare different games for the annual church picnic; family-oriented and intergenerational games; advertise and organize opportunities to attend special events as a church family.
  • Hospitality Team – Plans and organizes food preparation and serving for various fellowship events. Responsibilities include advertising, set up, food preparation if required, beverage service and clean up.
  • Wednesday Night Supper Team Member – Help prepare a simple meal in the church kitchen. Set up, beverage making and clean up are also part of the duties.
  • Cookies & Lemonade Team – Plan and organize the monthly Cookies & Lemonade time after worship.
